Design Project Engineer

We have a vacancy within our Engineering team for a Design Project Engineer Technical at our Headquarters in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

Overview

Design engineering working within a team of highly skilled CAD and Design personnel within the Engineering Department. The holder will be responsible for providing full technical assistance in the processing of sales orders / sales projects and the design and application of new or customised products. This role includes the following activities and responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Design new and /or customised products for special screw jack applications from customer specifications / requests.
  • Provide assistance to the Sales Team with the selection of the correct, commercially viable product for a given application/customer specification
  • Prepare or assist in the creation of design documentation including 3D CAD models, 2D Drawings, Layout Drawings, BOM’s, Manuals, Project Technical Files, etc.
  • Advise/assist with testing and evaluation of new/customised products and component parts, ensuring these are commercially viable.
  • Liaise with suppliers, Sales Team, Customers as required to facilitate the design and development of new technologies, ideas and commercially viable products.
  • Provide a troubleshooting/problem solving and technical assistance to customers and internal company departments as and when required.
  • Assist in the maintenance of Drawing Office procedures.
  • Carry out all work instructions accurately and effectively meeting tight deadlines.
  • Be conversant with current good engineering practice for component manufacture and be able to accurately and effectively incorporate these into all day to day tasks.
  • Provide flexibility and ability to work as part of a specialised team adhering to tight deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree / HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar as a minimum.
  • Relevant post qualification experience working within a design environment, with specific experience in designing mechanical components.
  • Ability to work accurately and within designated timescales
  • Work effectively as part of a small, specialised team, displaying a flexible approach to work.
  • Experienced in the use of SolidWorks 3D CAD within a mechanical design environment.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MathCAD software packages advantageous.
  • Some knowledge of Jacking systems and Power Transmission components would also be an advantage, however training will be provided.
