Technical Buyer

Technical Buyer required for purchasing department at our busy facility in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

Overview

Working as part of the Operations team for the efficient and effective purchasing of goods and services for Power Jacks manufacture of precision actuation and power transmission products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships between Power Jacks and suppliers.
  • Work with internal Production Planning, Production and Logistics teams to ensure best cost and quality for the business for bought-in products & services.
  • Ensure all products and services are ordered through qualified suppliers approved through company’s Quality Management System.
  • Identify new and review existing suppliers for products and services and obtain price and delivery information as part of tendering process.
  • Partner with Purchase & Processing Engineering Manager to execute customer service and stocking plan.
  • Place Purchase Orders (POs) timely and obtain PO acknowledgements from Suppliers.
  • Maintain MRP to keep PO requirement dates aligned with Master Production Schedule.
  • Achieve on time delivery in support of the Power Jacks Delivery Schedule.
  • Hold regular reviews with suppliers to ensure compliance with and accuracy of promised delivery dates and quality development.
  • Develop and drive effective supplier recovery plans.
  • Track in-transit material to identify and address any potential delivery issues.
  • Manage and resolve issues relative to engineering design changes, Supplier Deviation Requests to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Look upstream for pending requirements for projects and enquiries.
  • Ensure sales forecast is monitored and actioned as appropriate for purchased items.
  • To maintain the inventory at levels in line with business goals & objectives.
  • Responsible for day to day running of Purchasing department with support of Purchase & Processing Engineering Manager as required.
  • Working closely with Accounts to resolve any invoicing discrepancies, maintain accurate Standard Costs for bought-in items, and process and approve freight invoices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification or educated to Degree standard.
  • Fully competent in all standard Microsoft packages with previous experience of MRP systems, and high level of numeracy.
  • Able to work meticulously and accurately, with the ability to produce high quality and relevant reports from the company’s IT system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external personnel.
  • Able to prioritise workload to deal with constantly changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Excellent team working skills, working effectively within the team and providing support to other team members as required.
  • General engineering knowledge and understanding of basic drawings, with previous experience of working within a manufacturing/factory environment is essential.
