ATEX-Certified Screw Jacks

Power Jacks Launches ATEX Screw Jacks for Linear Motion in Explosive Environments

Power Jacks has officially launched its new ATEX-rated Screw Jacks for potentially explosive environments. The new ATEX-rated Screw Jacks give engineers increased capability when designing electromechanical solutions for applications where hazardous environments and potentially explosive atmospheres need to be considered.

“Having built up extensive experience working with clients in hazardous environments and with continued investment in our engineering team, we can now supply certified ATEX rated screw jacks to our customers” said Alex Crossland, Managing Director. “These ATEX rated screw jacks are part of our continuous development plans to deliver new and improved levels of linear motion solutions to our customers”.

Explosion-proof screw jacks are required when lifting, positioning and actuating safely in hazardous environments where potentially flammable liquids, gases, vapours, dust or other substances could ignite and/or explode. Power Jacks ATEX rated screw jacks are designed with extensive safety measures that restricts the amount of energy available if a fault occurs to prevent arcs or sparks from igniting explosive or flammable substances.

Key features of the new ATEX Screw Jacks include:

  • Engineered for Each Application – Optimised Machine Design
Due to the nature of applications in potentially explosive environments one model doesn’t fit all for screw jack solutions. So, Power Jacks highly experienced team of engineers assess each application and optimise each ATEX Screw Jack design, so it provides the safest and most reliable solution while maximising operational benefits for the end user.
  • ATEX and UKEX Compliant – Ensuring Safe and Reliable Operation
The engineering team are fully trained and experienced in working with the ATEX and UKEX equipment directives and standards to ensure that the required safety measures are in place for robust and reliable operation in potentially explosive environments.
  • Mechanical & Electro-Mechanical Designs – Wide Range of Solutions
Power Jacks can provide tailored solutions for each application either as a purely mechanical or electro-mechanical product. Complimenting the screw jacks for system design the company uses a wide range of ATEX certified accessories including electric motors, auxiliary gearboxes and feedback devices to complete linear motion system.
  • High Corrosion Resistant Versions – Use in Harsh Environments
As well as operating in potentially explosive environments the fully stainless steel version of the screw jacks offers high corrosion resistant for extreme environments including submersible designs.

At launch, the ATEX screw jacks are available for use in Zone 1 to Zone 22. A summary of the zones of operation is given in the table below.

ZoneTypeCategoryDescription
Zone 1Gas / VapourCategory 2GExplosive atmosphere likely in normal operation
Zone 2Gas / VapourCategory 3GExplosive atmosphere not likely; if it occurs, it is brief
Zone 21Combustible DustCategory 2DExplosive dust cloud likely in normal operation
Zone 22Combustible DustCategory 3DExplosive dust cloud not likely; if it occurs, it is brief

Engineering for applications in potentially explosive environments must be done right first time, which is why the company engage with the machine designer at the start of the process to ensure that the ATEX specification for the application is fully defined and understood by both parties. This integrated engineering approach ensures that the end user gets the safest, most reliable and operationally effective solution.

ATEX rated Screw Jacks are now available from Power Jacks global sales network.
