Typical Applications

POWERAM Linear Actuators are typical used for linear movement or actuation to Tilt, Pivot, Lift, Lower, Position, Roll, Slide, Open, Close, Tension, Lock and Unlock. This means they are ideal for applications such as lifting platforms, access platforms, folding stairways, roller lifts, door locks, hood lifts, hatch opening, diversion chutes, conveyor tracking, conveyor flow direction, gate lifts, shutter door lifts, wire tensioning, platform positioning, levelling systems, and many more. Special Designs

The POWERAM linear actuator design has successfully been applied in many varied ‘special’ applications, requiring for example:

• Safety Nut for extra emergency load holding
• Full power stop nut for extra emergency safety end of stroke stop
• Geared motor drive at right angles, parallel or in-line with actuator ram
• Clutch / torque limiter
• Brake mounted directly to actuator
• Limit switches installed directly to the actuators ram
• Integrated absolute or incremental encoder feedback devices
• Trunnion mounts midway on ram outer tube
• End flange mount on ram outer tube

Actuator Systems

The POWERAM linear actuators can be connected together in systems so that multiple units can be operated and controlled together. These actuator system arrangements or configurations can be built in many formats with the use of bevel gearboxes, motors, reduction gearboxes, drive shafts, couplings, plummer blocks and motion control devices.

Four of the most popular system configurations are the ‘H’, ‘U’, ‘T’ and ‘I’ configured actuator systems.

Note that multiple POWERAM actuators can be linked together mechanically or electrically. The latter is useful if there is no space for linking drive shafts.

If multiple machine screw actuators are connected in a mechanically linked system then the complete system may be considered self-locking. If you would like this checked please consult Power Jacks. Alternatively, to be sure, include a brake on the system either as a stand alone device or as a brake motor mounted to the actruator.

Actuator systems are not limited to the number of actuators shown in illustrations. They are regularly supplied to clients with 2, 4, 6, 8 actuator systems. Larger systems can extend up to 16 or higher. With the use of electronic synchronisation/ control multiple systems or actuators can be used in unison. Extending the possible number of actuators used in unison in excess of 100.
